Jaxon eyed the Fearlings and Nightmare Men scurrying past and working the ship with curiosity. Would he ever be able to command any such creatures someday? He couldn’t imagine it. He was too used to Nightmares and wary of change.

A shame though. He would be much better suited to protect his friends if he could. Phoenix and Mary always said they could protect themselves, but it was the principle of the matter. A king should be able to protect those close to him.

For now he would settle for what he could handle. Right now his biggest problem was maintaining a weapon made out of shadows. Be it anxiety or lack of practice he couldn’t tell, but nonetheless he was growing frustrated with not being able to keep hold of a weapon. He had to figure this conundrum out before they reached the Moon Clipper.

Farrell wasn’t as strong as the other Dream Pirates, that he knew. But what he couldn’t make up in strength, he made up in knowledge.

Knowledge that would help protect the ship. That would save the crew’s lives.

He watch as the lone young man stood by himself, deep in thought. Wanting to have a sparring partner, he grabbed two staffs, tossing one to the stranger.

“Care for a spar?”

Catching the pole in surprise, Jaxon looked up.

“Um… no, thanks for the offer.” He held the pole back out to Farrell. “You might prefer someone who would be able to put up a better fight.”
